Accutane

Back in August, I went to the doctor because my skin was just crazy oily and pretty broken out and my Proactiv had stopped working. The whole time she was talking about Accutane and what a miracle drug it is, I am freaking out inside. And when she said that I would have to have an abortion if I got pregnant, instead of saying, "I won't, so maybe I shouldn't take this drug," I just inwardly thought it...and then walked out the door with an absurdly expensive box of pills.

But it really is an amazing drug! Not only did my face dry up, but my hair stopped being so oily and the blackheads around my nose went away. For the first time in years, I can go all day without makeup and still look like I just washed my face! I really love it.

But there is still that issue about not getting pregnant. Not that we want to or anything, just that I hate worrying about it. And of course the risk is not worth the benefits IF I were to become pregnant, but...I really like having healthy skin and hair!

So when I went back this month, she told me to think about whether I want to keep on Accutane or just take an antibiotic, which will help with the acne but do nothing for the oil. {sigh} Why can't it just be easy to have pretty skin and healthy hair? Right now I have the next round (which I will only take 2ce a week), but I am going to wait till I start my next cycle to confirm I am not pregnant before I start hte next round. {Just to clarify, I am on the pill, but I don't take it at the exact same time every day, which the doctor said is the key to its effectiveness, so that is why I am waiting} But already, after just 2 weeks off of Accutane, the oiliness is starting to come back a little}

So I scrapped last night while I was watching Chuck and worked on my calendars. I used a kit from The Digi Files, so I got to check that off my list. The only thing from last month I still need to use is the SA collab. :)

When Joel & I started dating in college, Josh was one of Joel's best friend and Kerri was one of my best friends. They started dating not long after us, and it was so much fun! They stopped by my parents' house while we were home in 2006, and we got to hang out for an hour or so. Can't wait to see them again next year!

  1. In the states, they're discontinuing the use of Acutane. My friend has teenagers who take it and they will not longer be able to use it after the new year. She says that if you're a female here, you have to take a pregnancy test in their office every single month in order to get a prescription - they only issue one month's supply at a time! I'm glad it's been working for you, though. Hopefully you won't have to stop.
